Brave Concept Art

Yesterday we saw Pixar’s new animated film Brave, the story of a frizzy-haired Scottish princess who wants to avoid betrothal and determine her own fate. While it definitely is a departure from Pixar’s signature whimsy, it feels genuine and classic like a throwback to the Disney animated films of the past. It is funny, emotional, and beautifully animated. And on top of that, it’s the first of Pixar’s films dedicated to a female lead character. Merida, with her red curls and awesome bow skills, is a great addition to the family of Disney princesses.

When I saw this small collection of Brave concept art, I knew the film was at least going to be amazing to look at. But, as Pixar has proven time and time again, we can always expect beautiful visuals and a beautiful story.

Pitch Perfect

This weekend I saw the Pitch Perfect trailer for the first time. I think I may have audibly squealed in the movie theatre. A movie about battling a capella groups featuring the charming Anna Kendrick? It’s like the movie gods are answering my prayers. But seriously, I love a good sing-off. Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit and Glee are two of my favorites and I can’t wait to add this one to the list!

Paintstagram

With my efforts to paint more frequently and at smaller scale, I came up with the idea to make painted versions of people’s Instagram photos. We are capturing more and more with this fun little app, and the square format and recognizable filters make for equally fun little paintings. For my friend Kate’s birthday, I decided to to paint her a 6" x 6" of her Instagram pic of her family’s farm. I think it turned out pretty neat and I can’t wait to paint more of them!
