Best Halloween Costume

Although he wasn’t eligible for the costume contest at our company party, my boss Dave had a pretty amazing costume. He had a local custom piƱata maker create an oversized version of his own head. I can only imagine the hilarious ways we’ll be using this in the future!

My Day Job

I don’t talk much about my job on here, but most days I spend my time with meltmedia, designing sites and applications for the web. My most recent project has been a refresh of our corporate website. It was a particularly fun, but quick project where I was able to design, develop, and write the site’s content.

Check out my post on meltmedia’s blog that details what we changed and why we changed it: A meltmedia.com Refresh. And check out the full meltmedia.com and tell me what you think!

San Francisco Trip

I spent the last four days in San Francisco with a few of my coworkers from meltmedia. We attended the design conference TYPO and also had some fun around the city. We visited Fisherman’s Wharf, the Japanese Tea Garden, rode the trolley, and ate plenty of delicious food. I also managed to fit in a viewing of Beach Blanket Babylon, the hilarious musical comedy show. While I gained plenty of inspiration and perspective, both professionally and personally, I am glad to be home with Clay and the two pups.

NotConf – a JSConf pre-conference in Phoenix

The last week has been a whirlwind of planning, designing, and coding. This year’s JSConf is in my hometown of Scottsdale, AZ. It’s a gathering of JavaScript enthusiasts, committed to the new and cutting-edge in JS and the web and, of course, some jovial celebration. Meltmedia jumped at the opportunity to sponsor and plan a pre-conference. After some brainstorming and silly name suggestions, NotConf was born.

NotConf is an all-day event on April 1st featuring speakers, intimate demos, live music, local Arizona brewed beers and food trucks, and plenty of time to socialize with other JS geeks. It will be held at the Arizona Historical Society at Papago Park, a venue perfect for showcasing the beautiful Phoenix landscape and weather. NotConf is calling for speakers, demos, and volunteers. Register to attend or just check out the responsive website created in a few short days by the Meltmedia team.

Japanese American Gothic

For the past two years, we’ve been doing Secret Santa at our Meltmedia holiday party. I love giving personalized gifts so I decided I’d create custom artwork for whoever I pick. This year, I picked Naomi. He and another coworker, Ben, are great friends who love each other and bicker like an old married couple. I thought it’d be funny to put the two of them in Grant Wood’s famous American Gothic. I think he really liked it and it reminded me that I need to paint more just for fun.

Agency Throwdown Finals

Back in July, meltmedia competed against Terralever for Agency Throwdown Round 1. Last night we matched up against McMurry for the finals. They put up a good fight, but just couldn’t compete with our bowling prowess. We all had a blast and would love to thank redPear for hosting.

Agency Throwdown Round 1

Last night meltmedia took part in Agency Throwdown, a little bowling competition between creative agencies here in Phoenix. There was plenty of smack talk to go around, but melt came out on top. Over half of the company showed up, including two cheerleaders: one tall, one short and wearing a pink meltmedia cape. Terralever was terrified after we sent them a pre-game video (can be seen here) and only 3 members of their team showed up. Luckily 3 guys from Arkayne stepped in to help. It was a blast and I can’t wait until the next one.

EDIT: The representatives of Air (the music in the video) asked us to take the video down since we didn’t have the rights. Well, it was fun while it lasted.
